Despacito, a song by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi along with Daddy Yankee was released in 2017. It went on to become the most streamed song at the period within the space of six months. It was a blend of reggaeton and pop that attracted attention to Latin Music but also reggaeton. The Billboard Top 100 had four songs predominantly in Spanish in 2016, compared to just two songs in 2015. During the height of Despacito's popularity, however 19 predominantly Spanish songs made it into the top 100 as well, and by 2020 there were 41 of them. In the wake of Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in the year 2017, famous artists started to work with reggaeton performers. Drake and Bad Bunny worked together for the track MIA MIA (2018), while Madonna joined forces with Maluma on Medellin in the year 2019. In 2020, a few Reggaeton performers were expressing displeasure about the direction of their genre to the mainstream. Yet, a young generation, such as Rauw Alejandro was determined to continue the evolution. Rauw Alejandro incorporated electronic dance forms as well as other styles into his music.
